CASE STUDY | @akaranamarinesports Auckland by 106 CASE STUDY | @akaranamarinesports Auckland by 106 Architects + Pacific Environments.

The concept for this project was based on two pavilions - with a central and inclusive atrium focused on integrating the building with the marine environment and the people who use it.

The key outcome is a flexible and open connection between the local community and their sports functions, breaking down the exclusivity barriers formerly associated with traditional yacht clubs.

Did you know? The centre was selected as the venue for the combined world championships of the 49er (men) 49erFX (women) and Nacra 17 catamaran regatta held in December of 2019. 🙌🏻

CASE STUDY | @akaranamarinesports Auckland by 106 CASE STUDY | @akaranamarinesports Auckland by 106 Architects + Pacific Environments.

This large-scale $12 million project is located on Auckland’s treasured and sensitive ocean waterfront.

The project has seen the old yacht club gracefully evolve into the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre, catering to a far broader range of water-based sports and community activities than just sailing.

The project has enabled the interaction and regeneration of an under-utilised stretch of the waterfront and has opened access to a new range of marine-based users.

In addition, it includes over 800m2 of training and educational areas, and event spaces capable of hosting more than 300 people.

CASE STUDY | @akaranamarinesports Auckland by 106 CASE STUDY | @akaranamarinesports Auckland by 106 Architects + Pacific Environments.

The way in which clubs and communities are delivering sport today is changing.

With increasing popularity and growth, regional organisations, clubs and community groups are looking to provide stronger pathways to connect people to sports, recreation and active lifestyles.

Commencing in 2012, 106 Architects undertook early concept design, then won the commission - with @pacificenvironments_architects - collaborating to redevelop the existing @royalakaranayachtclub in Auckland’s Okahu Bay in the Eastern Suburbs.

CASE STUDY | Kardinia Park Redevelopment by Populo CASE STUDY | Kardinia Park Redevelopment by Populous.

The Kardinia Park is run by the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust (Trust) and is a statutory authority established under the Kardinia Park Stadium Act, 2016.

The Trust, governed by a board of seven Trustees, has been established to administer, promote and manage the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust Land more commonly known as GMHBA Stadium.

The Kardinia Park Precinct that surrounds the 36,000-crowd capacity stadium is an icon of Geelong and is steeped in history. Due to the Stadium’s iconic light towers it is visibly present no matter which direction you enter the city from.

The stadium is a rare asset for a regional city; a source of pride for the community, and an enabler for major events once reserved for capital cities to take place in Geelong with sizeable economic benefits.

Home to the AFL Geelong Cats, the redevelopment of the 5th stage has seen the Victorian State Government commit to $142m.

The project will secure the venue’s status as Australia’s best regional stadium and complete the ground’s transformation.

The project includes:
→ A new grandstand at the northern end of the stadium, increasing the overall capacity to over 40,000,
→ A new indoor cricket hub to be located between the stadium and the railway line,
→ → A new entry plaza to be established adjacent to Moorabool Street and the north of the stadium,
New professional and community sport change rooms and facilities, and
→ A sports museum.

Whether it be an AFL match, T20 cricket or one of the many community events held at the stadium, patrons will continue to enjoy world-class facilities year-round. The ultimate Third Place for the community at large.
